My journey
From a young age, I had my mind set on going to university and becoming a doctor. However, in my third year, I took a class on the social determinants of health and I fell in love with the field of public health! I switched gears and planned to complete a Master of Public Health degree right after I finish my undergraduate degree. Followed by getting a job working for a health authority and bam! I would be happy and living my purpose.
As I began working in the public health field, I realized two things: 1. making impactful change was a long and challenging process and 2. there are not a lot of jobs that provide the autonomy I wanted. I decided to switch into the health system and took on a new role designing and managing a new program for the health authority. It was fulfilling and meaningful work for me, but I still had a voice in my head that kept saying, “is there more?”
What is my purpose?
I started searching for what my purpose was in this world. I had always been drawn to autobiographies and true stories because they always allow me to learn about a person. Their intentions, their path, their purpose and their strategies to finding their purpose were the most valuable pieces of information. But, I always was unsure about how I could be successful in finding my purpose. What was it? Where do I go to find it? I kept only day dreaming about this mystical purpose I would find, but I never acted upon it because I just did not know how to begin.
Fast forward a few years later and I am now a mom of a 16 month old and I have been on maternity leave for the past 17 months. This time has been life changing because this time has allowed me to slow down, make time for myself and my reflection. I started to explore who I am, what I want and where I find myself feeling truly in tune and in touch with my soul. And of course, Oprah also has a big part in my journey to finding my purpose!
I have spent the past 17 months, reflecting, meditation, reading and listening to what the universe was telling me. I removed all the distractions and invited the things and people that brought awareness, peacefulness and calmness to my life. As I began to be quiet and soak up all the knowledge I could through podcasts, blogs, books and articles, I started to hear what my purpose was in life was. When I discovered my purpose in life, I eagerly began planning for how I would begin to live my purpose in life.
